Wеddеd Wеdnеsdаy - Bееr + Fооd Pаiring Tаlk

We had a party this weekend and spent the day before it smoking meat on the grill. Pork butt roasts take several hours to cook slowly to perfection. The scent alone went perfectly with a nice cold beer. So, of course, we had to sample our work later that evening. My husband had a nice...

    Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest

We stopped by the liquor store before the long weekend. We were happy to see some new craft beers in stock, including the Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. While it's not always my favorite style, there are a couple of good examples of it. I did enjoy this...

    Intro To Whiskey

I think you get better advice from people who are in the business too. They serve a lot of the stuff, so they might know something about it. In the nicer places, the servers are usually taught a bit about the things they serve, or they take the initiative themselves. They want you to eat and...

Wеddеd Wеdnеsdаy - Bееr + Fооd Pаiring Tаlk

That sounds good, @FolkArtist. I know what I want for dinner now, ha ha. A lot of people seem to like fried food with cold beer. At least shrimp would be lighter than say meat. That could work. Munchies go good with beer too. I could definitely see having it with fries. Spicy fries would be...

    Intro To Whiskey

Find a bar or restaurant with a good lounge that has a great bartender. Ask him or her for recommendations. Also, ask for suggestions when you go to the liquor store. Read guides. Ask friends. Try free samples (if liquor stores in your area do that).

    Brew Pubs

I think it's better, far better than mass produced stuff. I've had some very unique and interesting brews. Yeah, that is a bit pricey for 4 small samples, but I don't do it very often either. The place is new and quite small. Other places aren't quite as expensive.

Hоw Саn I Аpprесiаtе Thе Diffеrеnсеs Bеtwееn Diffеrеnt Typеs Оf Bееrs?

If you like a certain style of beer, I'd suggest trying it from a number of different makers. You can also look it up and read reviews. While your own taste will ultimately decide, you can probably figure out which ones are worth trying, if they're getting great reviews. Which beer lied and...

    Brew Pubs

It depends. Some are about the same, some are a bit more expensive. I'm sure the location also has something to do with it (as well as how small or large the pub is and their costs). In many, you can select a "flight" which is basically a sampler. You get small glasses (like 4 ounces) of...

Hоw Саn I Аpprесiаtе Thе Diffеrеnсеs Bеtwееn Diffеrеnt Typеs Оf Bееrs?

Even some of the low brands hit the right note on occasion. While all their beers might not be great, they might make one that's really good. Besides, people have different tastes and different opinions. What I think is good, you might think is bad. It really boils down to personal preference.

Hоw Саn I Аpprесiаtе Thе Diffеrеnсеs Bеtwееn Diffеrеnt Typеs Оf Bееrs?

Very true. Both of these are good advice, as is using the proper glass for the particular style of beer. It really does make a difference. That's a good point as well. Trying different styles in different brands can teach you a lot. Some brands are great at making one type while not as good at...

Whiсh Сhiсаgо Bаrs/сlubs Hаvе Rеputаtiоns Fоr Lооsе Id Pоliсiеs?

None of the ones I worked in when I lived there. No bartender or owner with an ounce of sense would risk it. They can be fined, jailed, and shut down for serving under-aged people, so you're putting them at risk. It's not worth it.

    Coconut Beer

It depends on the quality of the beer. The flavor should be subtle, not overpowering. Yes, that's the one. Some say it pours like motor oil, ha ha. I didn't think it was quite that bad (we tried some last winter). My husband liked it a lot. I also tried the coffee stout, which tasted like a...

    Do You Drink And Drive?

I disagree. Some might *think* they still drive fine after a few drinks, but that's been proven untrue. It's best to make arrangements in advance if you plan to have drinks while you're out. Bring along a designated driver, wait until you're sober, call a cab (or someone else), get a room...

    Coconut Beer

Yes! I definitely want to try this one. Thanks for posting it. I had forgotten the name, duh. I don't think it's even available during the warmer months. Stout season is usually fall/winter. I think this one will be out around the same time as Breakfast Stout, if I remember correctly. Aren't...

    Coconut Beer

I mentioned before that I had tried a really good coconut stout and a beerfest. I've been trying to find something similar to it ever since. There was an imperial stout from Boulevard's Smokestack Series with added coconut, which was very, very good. It's not readily available though. I tried...

    Best Beer With Calamari?

I enjoy fried calamari, but I never really thought about pairing it with beer. I'd probably have gone with wine first, but why not a good beer? Right now, I'm kind of into crisp, refreshing Kolsch. I like the one made by Boulevard, which I have been enjoying during the hot summer temps. I...

    Brewery Tours

Even if you have to do a bit of traveling, it might be worth it. We were doing a weekend getaway, so we booked a hotel room for the night, and then spent the day checking out the brewery and some wineries. It was interesting as well as enjoyable. I would do it again.

    What Type Of Glass?

If I were going to buy glasses, instead of using what I have, I would probably choose a tulip shape. It has a purpose (for delivery of the aroma), but I really just like the way they look. I like tulip shaped wine glasses and other bar ware as well, so I guess it's just kind of a thing with...

    Brewery Tours

I always forget which questions I want to ask when the occasion arises. I need a list. The person who gave us so much information did also talk about local ingredients. I forgot to mention that part. Not all are local but some are still relatively close. They like to help out nearby farmers...

What Is Your Favorite Brand Of Beer?

That's for sure, @DR KOKIL AGARWAL. Some of them are a little pricey. Some are a lot pricey. I guess it also matters how you drink. If you're sitting around drinking beer after beer or drinking to party, you're more likely to go with a cheap, mass produced beer. If you enjoy learning about beer...
