With the draw for the World Cup in Brazil next year to be held on Friday, Ballantine’s decided to jump Sepp Blatter’s pots with their announcement of a special lime-infused Ballantine’s Brasil edition of their Scotch whisky. The new 70-proof [35% alcohol content] Ballantine’s Brasil is made by cask steeping Scotch whisky with lime peels from Brazil and comes with five suggested cocktail concoctions – the Highland Samba [BB and lemonade], the Glen Rio [BB and apple juice], the Flower O’Brasil [BB and elderflower], the Caledinho [BB and freshly squeezed lime and sugar] and the Glen Coco [BB, freshly squeezed lime, sugar and coconut juice].
The World Cup begins in June 2014 so naturally Ballantine’s Brasil will have to be widely available before that and it is – launching in the Czech Republic and Netherlands in late December 2013 and the rest of the world beginning in February 2014 – at a cost of approximately $19 per 750 ml bottle.
