Fire Pit

Would you ever consider making your own fire pit? I have one that sits on the deck...but it is all rusty and needs to be replaced. I looked online and apparently people use pavers to make firepits. I am not sure how much it would cost, probably not very much. The problem would be though I could not keep it on the deck. I like the paver idea but I like to enjoy the fire pit on the deck.

Absolutely. It's actually really easy too with a bunch of garden edge stones or whatever those rounded ones are called.

Are they the pavers LOL?

We have a firepit in the backyard that was a wedding gift, but it's kind of a piece of you know what. I think most of the fire pits you can purchase are just cheaply made grills meant for occasional fires and they fall apart pretty quickly. We've only had it for one summer, made maybe 5 fires in it, and it's already wobbly. It ran about $200 from the store too.

You can probably make the really sturdy fire pit for under $100 and there's tons of tutorials with pictures on Google.

Yes, I totally love the way they look. However, like I said..I enjoy using my fire pit on the deck. I guess I will keep the idea in mind though if I can't sell my house this year. I would build a firepit for use in the yard.

My in laws have their own fire pit. They made it from concrete, it's held up pretty well.. But, it does have a few cracks in it.

Hahaha I have seen that same episode of This Old House! :D It is a pretty cool show and I liked how easy they made it seem. I do have some cinder blocks that I have thought about using to make a fire pit this past year. Also, I have some pallets that I was thinking of using to make some benches for the corner of my backyard.

I build one a couple of years ago but not something really big. It was a fun DIY project especially if you buy some expensive materials.

I would absolutely consider building my own fire pit. I don't own my own home at the moment, but I helped my mother through the process of designing her fire pit in the backyard. It's a fairly simple process. I would love to put together a glass fire pit that didn't need any sort of wood burning. The only down side to using glass is that you have to use a gas fire under the glass.
