Laphroaig Brodir Port Wood Debuts In Europe

A new Islay single malt Scotch whisky – Laphroaig Brodir Port Wood – will premiere in Europe this month. Laphroaig Brodir [“brother” in Norse] Port Wood is intended to celebrate Scotland’s connection with Nordic heritage and had an initial maturation in ex-Bourbon casks followed by a second maturation in European oak casks that had previously held Ruby Port.

Laphroaig Brodir Port Wood was bottled at 48% alcohol content and will sell for $140 per bottle at European travel retail outlets only.

Do we really need another overpriced NAS Whisky with a tacky pseudo-Celticoviking name ? Oh, and did I forget to mention the use of a Port cask to better camouflage whatever flaws this spirit might have ? I used to be a big fan of Laphroaig and Highland Park, but for the past 1-2 years, these 2 distilleries have been cranking out nothing but NAS with tacky names. Sad.
