Ambient Temperature.

In winter I sometimes feel like having a beer but i don't want to have something cold. Very often I have beer at room temperature.
How about you have you had beer at room temperature and enjoyed it?

I suppose I have, but to me beer is best enjoyed when it is hot outside, and the beer is very cold. It is a great summertime beverage. I would drink it anytime the time is right though. It goes great with football!

When it comes to winter, I don't usually drink anything cold or cool outside. I can do that with soda but, certainly, not with beer. However, If I'm inside... it doesn't really matter what season it is. I'm inside, you know.

I drink cold beer in every season, I can't stand room temperature beer even if it's freezing cold outside.

I actually practice to do the logic thing here. The science says that cold drink should be drunk during winters and hot during summers. It is basically simple stuff and it works. If in Summer when temperature is 35 degrees you drink something that is 45 degrees those 35 degrees would feel a bit nicer.

Good point. It's not like I build a snow castle for myself and go and drink there, I'd much rather do it in the house.

Most beers taste absolutely disgusting at room temperature, though there are some that are ok. So yeah, always cold beer for me, regardless of the season.

That is interesting, if you look at the Northern African countries they tend to drink very hot tea. It follows your line of thinking. I don't know about very cold drinks in winter though as it can lower your core temperature a lot.

It is basic science. Like elementary school basic. The point is to chill the body in winter with something colder than temperature around you. That way you will feel that temperature warmer and it will be actually.

The same thing goes for showers. In summer your showers should be hot so when you come out you feel those 35 degrees as a relief and in winter they should be cold so when you come out those -10 doesn’t feel so bad.

Another example is when you are out in snow, snow bowling without gloves preferably. After you finish and have your hands frozen you wash them with cold water and it will be HOT. So heat is just a matter of perception and it is correlated to our body temperature. Manipulate it just for a couple of tenths of a degree and you will notice a difference.

This might be true but you have to be careful with your core body temperature. If you go too cold you can suffer from hypothermia and if you become to hot you can suffer from heat stroke. I think just as long as you don't over do it.

Of course. I was thinking and talking about minimal changes in body temperature just to cool your self or heat it up in order to feel better, more mentally than physically. I understand the dangers of this and that would mean going to extremes. My comment was more about hot tea in the summer and the fear that you will feel hotter than you already are. Of course you want and cold drink in summer will make you cold sweat.

I see your point, I think I was thinking more of extreme temperatures. That is normally the time that you feel more uncomfortable with your surrounding temperature and are whiling to take more extreme measures to make yourself comfortable.

I totally agree. I had a problem with this once. I was working in one hotel on Malta. It was the Fortina Hotel but it is irrelevant for the story. So I was working in the hot kitchen and on the dish washer that was producing 60 degrees Celsius. The problem was when I was sent to fetch something from the freezers or, God forbid, clean them. The freezers go to -30 and it is not a pleasant surprise as you can imagine. I had was in a shock first time I did this without thinking. I couldn't breed and my heart was going crazy fast and then slow. After that event I would go to normal fridges first. Like those for pastry, cakes, etc. and after some time there I would go into a deep freezer.

I went through a similar experience last year, I was working in a company that distributed frozen foods. Sometimes clients would come to the office to pick up their products. I had to go into the freezers. The office was at 25C and the freezes were at -20C. As soon as I walked into the freezes I could feel my veins clamping up on my legs and ice forming on my nose hairs, if I stayed to long 20 mins or more my hands stopped functioning. When I got out of the freezer and went back into the office my whole body seemed like it was on fire. It was not at all comfortable, so I can imagine how it must have felt for you with a bigger difference in temperature.

Terrible thing. The joke was on me because it wasn't my job at all so I didn't have proper clothing of course. It was a job of Ahmed and Abram :), imagine this, both of them from Africa, Somalia and Eritrea respectively. I deserve some of that though because I made some cruel jokes locking them up in those freezers several times. You can imagine a dude from Africa going in there an getting locked up. Anyway, we are friends so it was no hard feeling in the end.

I don't mind a room temperature beer at all. I think it tastes different and the same with my whisky. I really like having it room temperature too. It gives you a little more depth.

You bad man :D
Normally when I used to go and help the people that worked there and spent the full morning or afternoon there I would put on the special gear, other wise I would just have to walk in with out it. It was terrible when they moved things around and I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I don't like really cold drinks anyways because I have sensitive teeth. I have beer at room temperature a lot, I really don't mind it much at all.

I like beer like this as well. There is actually a kind of tradition (that I never really understood) in Vojvodina, a part of Serbia, where they drink warm beer. I have no idea why they do it. I guess that it has something to do with some of the facts I was talking about in previous posts but I never tried it to be honest.
The room temperature is quite okay for me too. I am not a huge fan of ice cold drinks.
