I actually worked in a bar for over five years in my early twenties and it was the best time of my life. I got to do work that was exciting and fun and I met all sorts of characters you wouldn't believe. And the tips were great too. I wouldn't want to work as a bartender now, but back then it was great.
I had a great time tending bar when I was young. It was hard work but still fun. I made money and still got to socialize (instead of being out spending money).
Aside from the fun, neighborhood bar, I also worked in a hotel that hosted events and I did ballroom bar tending. I worked my butt off, but it was worth it, because I made great money.
Later, I worked the bar in a restaurant/lounge and then in a fraternal club. You definitely meet a variety of characters along the way.
I probably wouldn't want to do it now either, but pverall, it was a good experience and good money.
Of course, it had its moments too. Drunk people aren't always fun when you are the one who has to coral them, ha ha.
