Pipes?

Hey pals. I realize this is the cigar forum, but I reckon this fits: anyone smoke a pipe? How do you like it? What are your favorite blends? Thanks for sharing!

P.S. Personally, I've tried it and have a few pipes around. However, the tobacco I've had tasted like chalk compared to a fine cigar.

Not really a fan of the pipes, in comparison with a cigar the flavor isn't the best and I agree that some tobacco tastes like chalk, thought I was the only one that had that opinion!

I have never smoked a pipe..truly more of a guy thing, but they do smell awesome. I mean the smell of pipe tobacco is really grand. I once had a boyfriend who smoked a pipe and I used to love watching him light it, in the dark, and the smell of the tobacco.

I did try smoking a pipe for a while but didn't really like it. It burnt the tip of my tongue and i personally think it's more hype then anything else. If it was so good more people would smoke it.

I thnk a pipe is kind of for show. Premium pipe tobbacco is much different from the run of the mill packaged stuff that is available in most stores. There is a store about an hour away that features the premium stuff, and it was always fun to go there and smell the tobacco and to watch it being packed.

Pipe tobacco does have a unique and rich smell. It's unmistakable but you don't see a lot of people smoking it any more. I remember as a kid walking down the street and you could smell it nearly everywhere.

I mean it's cool now and then but it's not something I'd do everyday. I prefer to smoke a cigar, in comparison, but a pipe from time to time is good too.

Kind of a funny story in that vein. Smoking, of any kind, is strictly forbidden in Federal buildings. That includes Post Offices. Anyway, there is a kindly old gentleman in our town here who is never without his pipe. He waltzes right into the post office, puffing away, gets his mail, talks to folks, and does whatever else. By the time he's gone, the whole place smells, rather pleasantly to me, of pipe tobacco. AFAIK, no one has busted him yet. ;)

I think sometimes we let "old timers" get away with stuff because it is easier than arguing with them. However, I doubt he would get away with it here because there are few places that you can get away with smoking a cigar or pipe here at all. In fact, even the places that you can smoke a cigarette in still don't permit you to smoke a cigar or pipe because they say the smell is unpleasant.

This reminds me of a similar story, about a 2 weeks back I went and bought some smokes. I normally stop off at a shopping center near were I live which like most public spaces is smoke free.As I'm waiting for my turn I notice an old timer buying the same thing that I was going to and as soon as the lady hands him his smokes he opens the packet and lights one up. The lady turns too him and tells him in the most delicate way possible that he can't smoke there. He apologies and walks out of the store and in the opposite direction of the entrance door, still smoking. I don't know if anyone else brought up the no smoking issue as he disappeared from sight.
I'm telling you old timers can get away with murder, if I had to do the same they would probably call security.

I don't see why there is this discrepancy, sure there are certain cigars that don't have the most pleasant smell but pipe tobacco is very aromatic. Much more so then cigarette smoke.

While I don't use a tobacco pipe, I do use a glass pipe regularly. I love using my pipe. The pipe can be a big harsh, but it has some of the best results when it comes to medicating. The only downside to using a glass pipe is that people tend to make the carb and holes for inhaling a bit large. This results in me inhaling different particles and sometimes burning my throat. I would love to look into a regular wooden pipe, but I'm not sure if this would work with what I smoke.

Regular pipes normally have a filter to prevent the particles from reaching your mouth and making the smoke less dense. Don't glass pipes have a place to were you can place a filter?

Out of curiosity, are you smoking tobacco or another substance in the glass pipe? I never heard of tobacco being smoked that way. Though I know tobacco is smoked in metal pipes (Kiseru) in Japan. Anyway, just curious. I'd imagine it would be a pretty hot smoke considering the material.

Since a very young age I have always liked the smell of a pipe. I think it is because if reminds me of my grandfather. He always had a pipe going. I remember sitting on his knee as a kid and watching him smoke. The smell was so unique. I never see anybody smoking pipes anymore but it was the thing to do back in the day.

I didn't want to start another thread in the cigar form about pipe but going on the same theme as the other thread. Here is a tiny pipe.

I wonder how many times he has burnt himself lighting that thing up. lol

Oh I can see many burns happening trying to smoke one of these. Its cute though but I have to ask why? lol If you want to smoke a pipe then you might as well smoke a good sized one and enjoy it.

I love the smell of a pipe, but I wouldn't want to smoke one. It is just another thing to buy. I prefer a pure tobacco experience I guess. Actually, no tobacco is the best. It is just one of the things that some people like and others do not. I just think pipe smoking it is one of those choices either you like it or you don't.

LOL! I'd wager that is pretty much a guaranteed finger burn. Heck, I've done that with regular sized pipes. I wonder how hard it is to pack the bowl too. ;)
