Women And Cigars, Taboo?

I have been known to enjoy a few cigars here and there. By no means am I an expert, but I like to indulge. I have encountered many men that are surprised that I smoke, but I also have met women that share my curiosity. What are your thoughts?

Yeah it's kind of a taboo. Personally I find it quite unattractive when a woman smokes anything but that's just my personal view. Most of my girlfriends were smokers etc so it's not like I judge people, I just don't like it. Same applies for cigarettes and cigars.

For every guy who thinks it is off-putting there are two who think it is super sexy. If anything I have more trouble with the latter. I would rather just be seen as a person who happens to have an interest, not some kind of fetish object.

Yeah, women are smoking cigars in record numbers every guy who doesn't like it better get used to it, because I think it is here to stay. Now spitting or tobacco chewing that is another matter. I don't think you eve see that.

Not at all, females in Romania smoke cigars like it's noone's business, so I wouldn't say it's taboo.

I do agree there is still a bit of a taboo on women smoking cigars. Normally when you see images of women with a cigar it's to creat the shock factor. I personally don't see what the big deal is.

I am old enough to remember when it was kind of taboo for women to smoke cigars. At least hear in the States. In parts of Latin America, I noticed it was fine. And, frankly, that is how it should be. If a lady enjoys a nice cigar, more power to her.

This made me remember a documentary I saw a few years back on how Cuban Cigars where made. The women that was rolling the cigar was really old but was a chain smoker. I think she smoked as many as she rolled. lol

Haha! That job would make it pretty tempting. And, indeed, down in Cuba it is pretty darn common.

I think Women smoking Cigars is not at all Taboo. It is just a misconception and I strongly disagree. Women are equal to men in every aspect and I don't think Women doing things men do, should be called Taboo. It is a wrong notion created by the society and it should not be paid any attention.

I live in Portugal in around here it's super normal for women to smoke, I've never thought about this at all! I don't see why it should be a problem, it's not something for men only.

I agree, I think that it really has to do with the format and the image that surrounds it. If they were packaged in a different way there probably would be more women smoking cigars.

Great post, Molly! I remember when whisky and scotch were taboo things for women to drink too. I don't think of smoking cigars as a man's activity anymore. Now that tons of women smoke, it is becoming less and less taboo.

Most things that were taboo in the past have become more and more common, cigars are on of these things. I think that there isn't such a difference between men and women I think it's mostly a social thing.

Women and smoking = instant turn off. It's just purely disgusting to me.

I have the same opinion when it comes to men. I dislike smokers and always do my best to get out of the room when I see someone is about to light up. It probably didn't help that I grew up in a house with smokers and always had to air the place out.

Nobody smokes like that, and by the way that's not the way you hold a cigar. A cigarette yes, but that is a sure way to drop it.

That cigar doesn't even look fully lit and it's way too big to hold like that. Still, the only thing cigars have going for them is that they smell pretty nice as oppose to cigarettes.
