Beer is known to be a subject that causes a condition called "abdominal obesity", simply known as "beer belly" or "beer gut". It's kind of uneasy to get rid of such an excessive fat.

So, has anybody of you been suffering/suffered from that? Did you manage to beat it and get in shape again? If yes, what would be your advice to those who are willing to get rid of it?

    Feel free to express yourself!

Fortunately I don't have one but I think it's not only from the beer. I know a lot of guys that don't really drink that much beer that have one. I think diet has a lot to do with it.

I have a gut, but it is not from beer or whisky! My boyfriend doesn't drink and he has a gut! His little belly is from Netflixing. I wonder if it will be called Netflix gut in the future.

Haha, Netflix gut. Go ahead and post that on Urban Dictionary. You'll be officially recognized as the inventor of the term.

Yep, Netflix is a killer when it comes to beer guts. For some or other reason it just call for healthy food. Chips, nachos and anything fatty seems to go best with it.

Diet and exercise certainly help. And, of course, knowing your limit. Beer seems to also attract unhealthy sides (chips, crackers, etc.). One has to be selective on what to choose as a meal or snack that goes with a beer. And there are some dishes that are perfectly healthy that go well with a nice brew. Finally, in all things, moderation.

I think the side dishes that go with beer are worse then the beer itself. I don't know of many healthy meals that go with beer.

Your regular beer has about 100-150 calories per can. So if your diet is otherwise balanced, you excercise enough etc it should be no problem to chuck down 5-6 beers per day without it showing anywhere.

It might be called a beer belly since the guys who usually have it tend to sit on the couch watching sports and drinking beer. But it's really the sitting on the couch thing that makes it happen, not the beer. As others have mentioned the snacks are a big part of it too.

Don't blame the beer, blame your other habits. Beer is just extra calories and reducing beer is just one way to cut down on calories. And there are a million ways to increase your consumption.

I totally agree. When you try to put everything inside in just like one go it's kinda weird and doesn't feel good at all. There's no point in getting yourself loaded, both with food and drinks.

There are the Miller 64 calorie beers and I think there is a 55 calorie beer as well. those are like half the calories of traditional beers so they are one of the things that you might use if you looking to lose weight. If these are things that you want to do then get the beer options you need and won't develop a beer gut.

I agree, never blame the beer, you can blame the beer drinker.

Actually, quite a few of my uncles have those bad boys. I see It in a lot of long term drinkers even after their wives make them switch to light beer. Haha!

And the latter part pretty much proves that it's not the beer! :)

I think you have to have predisposition to develop one, because I know quit a lot of guys that drink a lot of beer but don't have beer gut, and it's not as if they eat healthily.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right about that. It may not even have anything to do with beer!

I'm sure the people who drink a lot but don't have beer bellies either exercise or are more active in other ways.

In college I drank almost every night but had 6 pack abs. I even ate like shit at the cafeteria three times per day and pizza late nights.

After college I drink a few times per month but have a 2 pack set of abs.

What changed? I don't have lacrosse practice from 3-5 and then play basketball from 7-9 or 10 anymore. I am literally 95% less active.

Hell, I was eating two packs of ramen noodles after playing sports, then going out drinking, then eating pizza at 3am...I try that now and I'm out of work for three days Hahaha!

That's actually a very good point. I have a friend like you. We used to party together. Back in the day, he enjoyed playing sports and heavy drinking. Nowadays he stopped playing but is still hanging out a lot. Having his 2009 version compared to that of 2015, I'd say he has put on some excessive weight.
