I googled the answer to your question and this is what I got:
"Cigars on the whole are more organic and dried plant matter than processed, which may contribute to why they smell better. Cigars are made to be smoked in the mouth, not in the lungs. The bold flavor is meant to be held in the mouth, therefore it is supposed to taste good.
Taste and smell are pretty connected. The tongue does little of the tasting, the nose does more of it. When I go to the cigar shop I smell
the cigars for what I want to taste. It will not taste the same lit as it does unlit. It will never smell or taste as good on the relight."
I have only smoked cigarettes and pot, so I have yet to smell the smell of cigars.
