Nikka Introduces Apple Brandy-Casked Single Malts
Nikka has released a pair of limited edition Apple Brandy-casked single malts – Yoichi Apple Brandy Finish and Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Finish – to commemorate the 100th wedding anniversary of co-founders Masataka Takesturu and Jessie Roberta (Rita) Cowan, who got married on January 8, 1920 in Glasgow.
Both Nikka Yoichi Apple Brandy Finish as well as Nikka Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Finish have spent six months in apple brandy casks and were bottled at 47% alcohol by volume [94 proof]. Nikka Yoichi Apple Brandy Finish is said to contain notes of apples, pears and peat while Nikka Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Finish is said to contain notes of apple, honey, sage and vanilla.
The apple brandy finish is symbolic for Nikka since Masataka started a business making apple juice and jam from local Hokkaido apples while awaiting the first whiskies’ maturation.
Both Yoichi Apple Brandy Finish Single Malt and Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Finish Single Malt are being made available worldwide for $250 per 700ml bottle.
