Johnnie Walker Celebrates 200th Birthday With Whisky
Blended Scotch whiskymaker Johnnie Walker has released four whiskies to celebrate the occasion 200 years ago when John Walker opened a small store in Kilmarnock in Scotland.
The four celebratory whiskies are: Johnnie Walker Blue Label 200th Anniversary Limited Edition Design, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Legendary Eight, John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend and John Walker & Sons Bicentenary Blend.
The Johnnie Walker Blue Label 200th Anniversary Limited Edition is essentially sporting a new bottling design featuring the cities and countries that are part of the Johnnie Walker history, along with geographical landmarks and cultural symbols.
The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Legendary Eight refers to the fact that it originates from a blend of whisky from eight distilleries operating during Johnnie Walker’s founding.
The John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend commemorates the debut of Old Highland Whisky in the 1860s – the company’s first commercial blend to travel from Scotland to other locations worldwide – and uses liquid from distilleries that were in operation at the time. The label features the only known, existing image of John Walker’s store from 200 years ago.
Finally, John Walker & Sons Bicentenary Blend is made with rare whiskies – all aged for at least 28 years – and including whisky from ‘ghost’ distilleries such as Cambus, Pittyvaich and Port Ellen.
The four Johnnie Walker limited edition whiskies are currently scheduled to become available in October 2020.
