Biggar And Leith Unveils Double-Edged Axe
New York-based importers, Biggar and Leith, have released a pair of blended whiskies from their inaugural Gladstone Axe Malt Whisky brand – The Gladstone Axe: American Oak and The Gladstone Axe: The Black Axe.
The Gladstone Axe: The American Oak is aged and finished in American oak bourbon barrels, contains whiskies blended from 14 Highland and Islay malt distilleries and is bottled at 41% alcohol by volume [82 proof].
Meanwhile, The Gladstone Axe: The Black Axe contains a higher proportion of Islay malts in the blend – producing a smokier flavor – and is also bottled at 41% alcohol by volume [82 proof].
Both Gladstone Axe whiskies are named after former UK prime minister William Gladstone – who signed the Spirits Act in 1860, allowing the blending of Scotch whiskies – and were created by Gladstone’s great-great-great grandson and founder of Biggar and Leith, Elwyn Gladstone.
Both Gladstone Axe whiskies are being made available on Amazon for $45 per 700ml bottle.
