Glenfiddich Secret Box
I’m officially excited, guys. Glenfiddich got in touch with me a while back asking if I might be interested in sampling one of their products – and who would I be to say no to that? I’ve had a couple of samplers sent to me from distillers before, and what normally happens is that they send out a small 1.5oz teaser bottle. Glenfiddich, however, decided to put a rather different spin on things. By special delivery I received a plastic bag, inside the bag was what appeared to be an endless amount of bubble wrap, and once I’d torn that to shreds I found a cardboard box…
And this is where it gets exciting, because inside the cardboard box was a wooden box locked with a combination padlock. What the combination is, I have no idea. The only way to find out the combination (bar trying them all one by one, which I’m not really up for in all honesty!) is to figure out which other whisky blogger has been sent my combination – conversely, I hold the key for someone else.
Update:
Alright, after some cunning use of google (it was very pedestrian, actually) I found a couple of other bloggers who had received a similar package – apparently there were 10 of us in total – and unfortunately a couple of them had decided to be spoil sports and pick the locks, boring! I also found my code as the Whisky Exchange bloggers had posted it in their blog post. I would have hoped for more of a challenge, but hey, I still got a free bottle of what will hopefully be delicious whisky. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet (after having a few too many beers at the Brauhaus last night, I don’t fancy getting my drink on quite this early on in the day) but I did grab a pic of the opened box and bottle.
It seems that sending us these bottles was a marketing ploy to get the whisky world’s attention for a minute and direct it to their new online warehouse, which you can watch a little clip about here or visit here – there are a fair few prizes to be won by signing up and doing a little treasure hunt. I’ll be checking it out when I get home this evening.

Apologies for being a spoilsport, but the good thing is that I found your blog, which I didn’t know about before – enjoy your whisky!

No worries – I’ll forgive you! Plus, you weren’t the only one to do it. 😉

That is a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 Solera Reserve bottled at cask strength if I recall (I have to specify the Solera Reserve because the 15 yr Distillery Edition is also higher proof). Any plans to review this one?
