Islay distillery Laphroaig has released Book Two: Building An Icon, the second of their limited edition single malt whiskies honoring Ian Hunter, the last member of the founding Johnston family to run the Islay distillery. The entire range will eventually consist of five whiskies, each released annually.
Hunter was the youngest member of the Johnston family, joining the Laphroaig distillery in 1908, after his relatives, brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston, founded the distillery in 1815. Hunter is credited with doubling the production capacity of the distillery and successfully exporting Laphroaig whisky around the world.
This year’s release – Laphroaig Book Two: Building An Icon – was matured in sherry casks for 30 years, bottled at 48.2% alcohol by volume [96.4 proof] and is said to contain notes of dark chocolate, figs, Manuka honey, toffee and stone fruit.
Laphroaig Book Two: Building An Icon is being made available for $985 per 700ml bottle.
