The Glenrothes Reveals 100% Kosher Bourbon Cask Reserve
Speyside distillery The Glenrothes has unveiled their Bourbon Cask Reserve – which is actually a re-branded version of their Alba Reserve – supposedly the name has been changed for simplicity and to “aid consumer understanding”. The Glenrothes Bourbon Cask Reserve is the first certified kosher whisky from The Glenrothes distillery and is matured exclusively in American oak refill bourbon casks.
The distillery’s normal wood policy uses a combination of Spanish and American oak, seasoned with sherry, bourbon and refill Scotch, however, of that trio, only the bourbon is 100% kosher. In response, The Glenrothes developed an expression to satisfy Orthodox Jewish whisky enthusiasts. A stamp certifying the whisky’s kosher status appears on the back label.
The Glenrothes Bourbon Cask Reserve is bottled at 40% alcohol content [80 proof] is available in the USA and UK for $55 per bottle.
