Shetland Reel Distillery Bottles First Shetland Single Malt Whisky
The Shetland Distillery has bottled the first single malt whisky from the Shetland Islands in Scotland. Although the whisky is aged and distilled in Portsoy near Aberdeen on the mainland, it is then ferried to the island of Unst where it is officially bottled. The distillery has plans to eventually build a full-fledged distillery on the site of a former Royal Air Force base at Saxa Vord on the island of Unst. The first bottles of Shetland Reel Single malt Scotch whisky were aged in two Scotch whisky refill casks and two German virgin oak casks.
Only 21 bottles of peated single malt Scotch whisky will be produced from one of the German virgin oak casks and be available for $200 per bottle while 151 bottles from the other three casks will sell for $157 per bottle on September 1, 2015.
