The Balvenie Falls Under Influence Of Oak
The Balvenie has released the second element of its DCS Compendium, called ‘Influence of Oak’ and consisting of five single malts.
The five single malt whiskies in The Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter Two range in age from 15 years to 43 years and were taken from different cask types, including; European oak Oloroso sherry butts [floral and fruit notes], first fill American oak bourbon barrels, European oak port puncheon and European oak Pedro Ximénez sherry butt [ginger and toffee notes].
• 1972 Aged 43 years – Cask 13134, European oak Oloroso sherry butt, filled October 31, 1972, 52.4% alcohol by volume [104.8 proof]
• 1990 Aged 25 years – Cask 2790, European oak Oloroso sherry butt, filled October 3, 1990, 59.6% alcohol by volume [119.2 proof]
• 1990 Aged 26 years – Cask 7359, First fill American oak bourbon barrel, filled May 1, 1990, 52.9% alcohol by volume [105.8 proof]
• 1997 Aged 19 years – Cask 7951, European oak port puncheon, filled August 6, 1997, 61.8% alcohol by volume [123.6 proof]
• 2001 Aged 15 Years – Cask 9328, European oak Pedro Ximénez sherry butt, filled April 25, 2001, 62.3% alcohol by volume [124.6 proof]
