Royal Lochnagar Unveils 17-Year-Old For Anniversary
Highland distillery Royal Lochnagar is celebrating their 175th anniversary by releasing a limited edition 17-year-old single malt.
Royal Lochnagar was founded in 1845, one mile from the England royal family’s Balmoral Castle. Originally christened New Lochnagar, the distillery was issued a Royal Warrant after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert took a tour in 1848, permitting the use of ‘royal’ in its name.
Royal Lochnagar 175th Anniversary was aged in refill, Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry-seasoned casks, bottled at 56.3% alcohol by volume [112.6 proof] and is said to contain notes of chocolate, mango, melon and sandalwood.
Only 3,000 bottles of Royal Lochnagar 175th anniversary are being made available for $325 per 700ml bottle.
