Old Pulteney Brings Out The Old In Old Pulteney
Highland-based Old Pulteney has released a pair of single malt whiskies – a 30 Year Old and a 50 Year Old – as part of the distillery’s celebration of their 200th anniversary.
Old Pulteney 50 Year Old was matured in American oak casks with a splash of seasoning in a European oak cask, bottled at 40.8% alcohol by volume [81.6 proof] and is said to emit notes of cardamom, plum, sea air, tobacco, toffee and vanilla.
Only 200 decanters of Old Pulteney 50 Year Old are being made available worldwide for $26,800 per 700ml decanter.
Old Pulteney 30 Year Old was also matured in American oak casks and spent some time in European oak casks, was bottled at 50.4% alcohol by volume [100.8 proof] and is said to contain notes of almond, caramel and toffee.
Old Pulteney 30 Year Old is more plentiful – though only 1000 bottles are being made available – and more reasonably priced at $2,340 per decanter.
