Crown Royal – 50 Whiskies in a Single Bottle
Crown Royal is a blend of 50 Canadian whiskies. The unique spirit is distilled at the Gimli distillery, located in Gimli, Manitoba. Its site stretches over 360 acres and holds approximately 1.5 million barrels of bourbon. This is where the most miraculous whisky is made.
The Crown Royal brand is a blended Canadian whisky that was originally created by Seagram and has been owned by Diageo since 2000. It is produced at Gimli, Manitoba, while blending and bottling are done at Amherstburg, Ontario.
The individual whiskies that comprise these blends are created from five different recipes (mash bills) and twelve distillation columns. These are aged in either new or re-used charred oak barrels for varying periods.
During the maturation process, barrels experience extreme temperature swings, causing the wood to expand and contract, adding character to the whisky. When the whiskies have been aged to satisfaction, they are meticulously blended to create the smooth, rich flavor of Crown Royal.

In 1939, Samuel Bronfman, president of Seagram, introduced Crown Royal as a tribute to King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth. This was the first royal tour of Canada in 1939 made by any monarch. Crown Royal was available only in Canada until 1964 when it was exported to the United States.
In addition, Crown Royal has won five gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition between 2005 and 2012. It has also received a gold award from Whisky Magazine. Jim Murray’s “Whisky Bible” named Crown Royal as the World Whisky of the Year in 2016.
Crown Royal whisky has been presented to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in purple velvet bags since 1939. In 2018, the company partnered with Packages From Home to launch The Purple Bag Project, which uses velvet bags to support the troops.
Whisky enthusiasts all over the globe have sought to taste this spirit worthy of a king.
