Glen Moray Offers Maple, Eh?
Speyside-based Glen Moray has released a pair of limited edition “spirit drinks” finished in Canadian maple syrup casks – the first to be finished in maple syrup in the brand’s 125-year history. Scotch Whisky Association rules require Glen Moray to label the duo as “spirit drinks” rather than Scotch whisky since maple syrup casks are not permitted for maturation.
Glen Moray has released both a peated and a non-peated version of the “spirit drinks”, which are both originally matured in American oak before being finished in ex-Canadian maple syrup barrels, bottled at 59% alcohol by volume [118 proof] for the unpeated version and 59.1% [118.2 proof] for the peated version with flavor notes of brown sugar, sticky toffee and vanilla fudge for the unpeated version and adding smoke to the mix for the peated version.
Approximately 200 bottles of each version are being made available for $120 per bottle.
