Hollywood Distillery Makes Debut
The Hollywood Distillery has finally made its debut.
The distillery in Santa Monica – and on the site of a former mortuary – is the brainchild of longtime friends Larry Neuberg, Jeff Zarrinnam, and Ferris Wehbe, who aim to produce spirits using California-grown ingredients. The trio hatched an idea for the distillery nine years ago and claim that the Hollywood Distillery will be the first-ever “legal” distillery in Los Angeles.
Hollywood Distillery’s inaugural spirit is Oasis Vodka, emerging from organic Medjool dates planted and harvested in nearby Coachella Valley. The distillery’s founders claim it is the world’s first vodka distilled from dates.
Along with the date vodka comes Zanja-Madre Bourbon and Rye Whiskey – both originating from 100% California-grown grains with the rye being matured for seven years [Zanja Madre is a reference to Los Angeles’ first, and ultimately controversial, aqueduct/water irrigation system].
Nopalera Gin is also made with local dates [along with some additional botanicals] and celebrates the nopal cactus fields of 1853.
The Hollywood Distillery will offer guided tastings, behind-the-scenes distillery tours and event hosting. Additionally, Hollywood Distillery boasts a bar full of the required black-and-white photos of Hollywood icons such Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Humphrey Bogart. In addition the distillery will host local food trucks and vendors.
The Hollywood Distillery will be open weekly from 11am to 7pm, Thursday to Sunday.
