Maker’s Mark Extols B Corporation Status
Beam Suntory – owners of Maker’s Mark Bourbon – has announced that the Kentucky-based distillery has become a certified B Corporation, and claims to be the largest distillery in the world to receive the notation. The B Corp certification is awarded to companies that meet high standards of inclusivity and sustainability.
Beam Suntory says Maker’s Mark has achieved B Corp status by exceeding the benchmarks in the following categories: Community, Customers, Environment, Governance and Workers.
Beam Suntory claims to have implemented a zero-landfill initiative, on-site recycling and a natural water sanctuary at its distillery at Star Hill Farm in Loretto, Kentucky.
Additionally, Beam Suntory says Maker’s Mark has introduced more sustainable projects for the spirits industry, including partnering with the University of Kentucky to explore the DNA of the American white oak trees.
