Old Forester Adds new 10-year-old Bourbon
A new 10-year-old Bourbon was added to the whisky portfolio of Old Forester. Dubbed 1924, the spirit features a new mash bill for the distillery. The company has long been famous for its exotic expressions and forms part of the Brown-Forman group.
There are seven new expressions in the series, each made up of seven percent corn, one percent rye, and ten percent malted barley – a departure from the brand’s traditional seven percent corn and eight percent rye bills. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Old Forester’s first barrel acquisition, it uses a variety of mash bills to bottle the whiskey. During Prohibition, it obtained one of six permits allowing it to continue producing whiskey for medicinal purposes.

“We are honored to commemorate this historic milestone with a new featured mash bill and a beautiful 10-year age statement,’” master taster Melissa Rift said. “It allows whisky lovers to taste just how dynamic our brand can be while staying rooted in our rich history.”
The 115-proof Old Forester 1924 will be available nationally for US$115. It combines the flavors of chocolate-covered graham crackers dusted with cinnamon and cured tobacco with hints of rich oak and fudge.
In the Whiskey Row series, each bottling reflects a different moment in Old Forester’s 153-year history. The new whiskey will be added to 1870 Original Batch, 1897 Bottled in Bond, 1910 Old Fine Whisky, and 1920 Prohibition Style.
The 150th-anniversary decanters for Old Forester sold out in 14 minutes in November. Each was priced at US$2,500 and sold exclusively on the brand’s website. Brown-Forman reported overall brand sales decreased 9% in November.
As a result of the pandemic, the decanters were originally filled to be served at special tastings and events during its anniversary year in 2020.
“Old Forester is the only Bourbon to exist before, during, and after Prohibition. What better way to celebrate that legacy than offering to the public this rare decanter?” said master taster Meliss Rift.
