Stauning Introduces Vermouth To Their Rye Whisky
Denmark-based [and part-Diageo-owned] Stauning distillery has released El Clásico – a rye whisky matured in vermouth casks.
El Clasico was initially aged for three years in virgin American oak casks, then spent another year maturing in Spanish vermouth casks before being bottled at 45.7% alcohol by volume [91.4 proof] and – perhaps, not surprisingly – is said to contain notes of bitter botanicals.
El Clasico is recommended alone – as a sipper over ice – or possibly as an addition to classic cocktails.
Stauning El Clasico is being made available for $85 per bottle.
