The GlenAllachie Trumps Peated Single Malt Whisky
The GlenAllachie is debuting a new peated single malt Scotch whisky this month. The new whisky brand is crowned Meikle Tòir and has become the latest in the company’s new horizon of tastes.
The distillery has been producing over 100,000 Litres of peated alcohol every year since the first season in 2018. The season runs for six weeks and uses peat from St. Fergus.
Meikle Tòir Peated Whisky 2023 Edition
The peated label’s core range consists of unique whisky expressions that are aged for at least five years.
- The Original: The Original 5-year-old was aged in American virgin oak casks and Rye barrels, imparting “waves of stem ginger, sweet spice, and oak-smoked sugar”.
- The Sherry One: An initial maturation period in American oak was followed by further maturation in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons, resulting in an “impeccable balance between dark fruits, mocha, treacle, and earthy peat smoke”
- The Chinquapin One: Drinkers can expect “smoked spices, roasted nuts, campfire smoke and crème brûlée” when sipping on the Chinquapin One aged first in American oak barrels before being transferred into superior Chinquapin virgin oak barrels from the Northern Ozark region of Missouri, USA.
- The Turbo 2023 Edition: An annual limited edition bottling, Turbo focuses on the spirit with the highest level of phenol: the spirit cut with the highest level of peat.
Original, Sherry One, and Chinquapin One all have a spirit PPM level of 35, with Mainland peat contributing a sweet er and oaky smoke flavor than coastal peat.
There are just 2,500 bottles of the 2023 Edition, which was aged in three American virgin oak casks and five Oloroso Sherry hogsheads for five years.
The packaging features an illustration depicting the rugged terrain surrounding the distillery, such as Ben Rinnes’ peak. It has a complementary “earthy” palette to emphasize the whiskey’s smoky taste.
The special edition will become available throughout this month at different presentations and on sale at the Whisky Exchange Show in London this weekend.
