The Glenlivet has released their latest limited edition single malt Scotch whisky entitled, simply, Cipher. The whisky comes in the form of an opaque black bottle and The Glenlivet has designed it this way as a challenge to consumers to figure out the cask information via taste notes in an online interactive digital experience to decode the flavor profile.
Clues to the tasting notes of The Glenlivet Cipher are located on the label of the bottle, where the first clue appears with a prompt to visit the official The Glenlivet microsite at cipher.theglenlivet.com. Once online, visitors to the site are encouraged to create a flavor wheel by selecting six aromas for the nose and six flavors for the palate, indicating the strength of each, resulting in more than 10,000 possible flavor combinations.
Once the flavor wheel has been created, users will receive a cipher of their tasting notes and a percentage score that can be shared on social media. At a future as-yet-undisclosed date, the official tasting notes of The Glenlivet Cipher will be revealed.
As of June 2016, The Glenlivet Cipher is available in limited quantities in 25 markets worldwide for $120 per bottle.
