The Macallan Flies Into LAX
Speyside-based wildly popular Scotch whisky brand The Macallan has launched their first airport-based boutique on the West Coast at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The boutique is in collaboration with DFS, a global luxury travel retailer.
The boutique was designed with architect Jamie Fobert, and has been christened ‘Nurtured by Nature’, emphasizing the story of The Macallan Estate.
The boutique’s design was inspired by the Six Pillars – The Macallan’s signature elements representing craft and character – and feature oak wood and copper and a wave wall that mimics the design of The Macallan Distillery’s roof in Speyside, but with the extra addition of an exclusive ‘Dancing Leaf’ [from an American oak tree] installation by local artist Sarah Ippolito.
The Albariza brick wall is composed of the same white soil used to grow sherry grapes in Jerez de la Frontera, where The Macallan sources many of their Oloroso sherry casks used to mature their various whiskies.
Last but not least, the boutique atmosphere is enhanced by an original score created by Mimi Xu Studio, which uses field recordings from The Macallan Estate in Scotland.
