WhiskyCritic Review – Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Port Cask Finish
WhiskyCritic had the op”port”unity to dive into a Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14-Year-Old Port Cask finish single malt Scotch from the Highalnd distillery.
The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14-Year-Old Port Cask Finish began and ended with smooth, velvety tones making it a delight from start to finish. There was a distinct sweetness to the whisky, undoubtedly due to the fact that it was matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before being further matured in specially selected Ruby port pipes from the wine estates [Quintas] of Portugal.
This extra maturation wood finishing technique from Glenmorangie is really what makes this whisky stand out from others of its ilk. The wood finishing from the port pipes coaxes both bold and subtle and flavors – mostly sweet – that are both pleasant at the time you are drinking and linger afterward for an enjoyable aftertaste – which is not something WC can say for other high-dollar amount whiskies.
Overall, WC awards a 94 out of 100 to the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14-Year-Old Port Cask Finish – putting it up there with some of WC’s most highly rated whiskies.
