Lion Brass Distillery Rolls Out Singapore Whisky
Lion Brass Distillery has widened its drinks portfolio with the addition of its first Singapore whisky. The company has been producing gin and now has added the whisky to its brand.
According to the Drink Business, the distillery was started back in 2018 by Jamie Koh. The Scotch whisky was completely elaborated in Singapore and has become the first expression produced by the distillery.
Brass Lion Distillery Works With the Climate
Notably, the Singapore climate is not very conducive to whisky production. However, Koh was bent on producing. So, she contacted the General Brewing Company. It collaborated with Brass Lion to create a wash that would accommodate Singapore’s equatorial climate and high humidity.
Brass Lion Distillery chose not to control the temperature. Instead, it has allowed Singapore’s natural climate to influence the whisky’s flavor. Since the island’s tropical conditions combine high temperatures with high humidity, the aging process is accelerated. The whisky matures faster due to greater contact between air, cask, and spirit.
However, this has been a part of Koh’s agenda from the start. she said:
“Creating a whisky was always part of the plan. When I first decided to open a distillery in Singapore over 10 years ago, I wanted to create not just Singapore’s first gin but a range of different spirits Singapore could call its own.
“Making whisky in Singapore, where it had never been done before, is an exciting new experience since the climate conditions are so different from the traditional sources of whisky. Unique climates in different regions significantly influence whisky maturation. Singapore is positioned right on the equator, with high temperatures and humidity all year round.”
The Brass Lion Whisky was drawn from a single cask for this limited edition. Only 427 bottles will be available, 70 of which will be Cask Strength. The whisky’s packaging echoes the topographic features of the area around Alexandra Terrace.
