Arrival Breaks Edinburgh’s Century Long Record of No Whisky Production
A new single malt whisky, Arrival, has renewed whisky production in Edinburgh after a century-long absence from the market. The new spirit shares another historic moment being the inaugural expression of Holyrood Distilery.
Holyrood Distillery will celebrate the launch of its inaugural whisky, Arrival. The company will host a special event on Saturday, October 7 in Edinburgh. The celebrations will feature music, free drams, and a tour of the distillery facilities.
According to the company’s website, Arrival will officially launch on Friday, October 6. Festivities will focus mainly on Saturday where visitors will get a first-hand view of the Innocent Railway station refurbishings. The Hoyrood operates from one of the former terminus.
Edinburgh Is Making Whisky Again
Even though the distillery was founded in 2019, it focuses on the earlier traditions of Scottland’s capital. Edinburgh was once the cradle of whisky production, and Holyrood hopes to steer it back. Debs Newman, the distillery’s General Manager stated:
“This year Edinburgh has been well and truly placed back on the whisky-making-map, and we want to take a moment – with our neighbors and other Edinburgers – to raise a dram to this on Saturday 7 October.
“Just as the distillery is a part of Edinburgh, our city and its people, heritage, and culture are what we draw inspiration from every day.
“Our whisky has been quietly maturing, and we are so excited to now share it with the people of Edinburgh.”
However, Holyrood is sharing a lot more than just free drams and a tour. The company has invited the neighboring pizza shop, High Dive Pizza Bar, to provide refreshments to visitors.
The event will be opened between 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. and will offer tours every hour. Citizens from Edingburgh will have free access to taste the new expression and participate in tours of the facilities.
The whisky bar will be open until 7 pm and visitors will be able to try Arrival courtesy of Holyrood.
