Atom Group – 3 Whisky Distillers Return Home
Atom Group and its subsidiaries, Master of Malt, Atom Brands, and Maverick Drinks, were sold back to Atom Group’s founder. Occurring six years after the company was bought for an undisclosed amount by AB InBev.
According to the Spirit Business, AB InBev’s ZX Ventures acquired Atom Group in April 2018 from founder Justin Petszaft. Master of Malt calls itself the “number one online whisky retailer in the world”. Offering vintage spirits, tequila, rum, gin, and more, the website was created by Petszaft in 1999.
“We went into the AB InBev relationship with a lot of excitement and energy. And a lot of hope about what could be accomplished together. We felt they were as ambitious and excited by how technology could transform the drinks industry as we were”. Petszaft told The Spirits Business.
Atom Group of Whisky Distillers Recovered by Founder
As a result of the deal, Petszaft says Atom is no longer integrated into the AB InBev ecosystem because the company is still too early in its lifecycle. It has now become an independent, 100% founder-owned company.
In addition to its retail division, Atom Group owns Bathtub Gin, Boutique-y Whisky, and Rumbullion. AB InBev has explained the sale. Best known for Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and Modelo, the company recently announced promising sales figures.
It has acquired leading brands like Goose Island and Cutwater Spirits as well as startups like BioBrew and Beer Hawk through ZX Ventures – the subsidiary that originally acquired Atom Group.
In a recent report by the Drinks Business, Atom Group owned substantial drinks and beverage properties.
ZX Ventures purchased parent company Atom Group for an undisclosed sum in 2018, to scale its global operations and e-commerce platform. Atom Group includes online retailer Master of Malt, drinks wholesaler Master of Malt Trade, spirits producer Atom Brands and spirits distributor Maverick Drinks
