Blue Moon Ale Turns Blue
A “blue moon” is either the second full moon in a single calendar month or the third full moon in an astronomical season that has four – both rare occurrences – and Blue Moon Ale has commemorated the rarity with a rarity of their own creation, turning the color of their Belgian-style ale blue for the weekend.
This weekend, at participating bars across the country – and while supplies last – people may order Blue Moon Belgian White Belgian-Style Wheat Ale dyed “a vibrant blue hue.”
The original name of the ale was actually Bellyslide Wit when it was produced at the Sandlot Brewery in Denver, in 1995…until a fan commented that “A beer this good only comes around once in a blue moon.” The name was promptly changed.
Participating bars in 30 USA markets will serve the blue beer, including Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Francisco and Tampa.
