Cannabis Botanical Distillery to Launch First Whisky
Historic whisky distillery, Cannabis Botanical Distillery (CBD) is preparing to launch its first whisky. CBD is the first-ever whisky distillery in Denmark and will now produce the country’s first single malt.
During the next few months, Denmark’s first rum and whisky distillery will launch. After a two-year aging process reaches the finish line, the company will roll out its first single malt whisky. The Cannabis Botanical Distillery currently showcases gins, vodkas, and hemp spirits in its portfolio.
Cannabis Botanical Distillery Makes History
According to CBD CEO Matt Beaton, the artisan whisky will have a fresh, seaside flavor. He said:
“The coastal influence on Denmark’s first Whiskey Distillery can’t be overlooked and it’s no mystery as to why some of the best drams were born in Ireland and Scotland, both flanked by sea, pristine air quality, rolling green pastures and an amazing quality of fresh water.
“The distillery’s location is lucky enough to share the same limestone-filtered aquifers that originate from William Bay National Park and flow into the dam via springs.
“This provides an incredibly viable and sustainable water source and clean canvas to work from in the distilling process.”
Moreover, Mr. Beaton is proud of CBD’s foray into whisky production, which was built on sustainability and a zero waste initiative.
However, it was the state distillery De Danske Spiritsfabrikken in Roskilde that began trials in 1922, which led to the creation of Danish whisky. Even today, laboratory bottles from this period are occasionally auctioned off. Nonetheless, this faded away to Scottish imports.
As of December 27, 2005, the current era of Danish whisky production began with Jesper Paulsen. He created the first malt distillate into his own barrel that had previously been topped with a red wine from the Rondo range. Howbeit, the aging process was only partly done in Denmark.
Notably, CBD is the first Danish distillery to have completed the entire production process at home. Making it the first homegrown Danish single malt whisky.
