Knob Creek 9 Year Old
Knob Creek 9 Year Old is a bourbon that I had heard a lot about leading up to its winning of the Whisky Bible 2011 award on the various bourbon sites that I frequent. It has been lauded as one of the best bourbons in its price range and has received critical acclaim since it was first released. I was blessed enough to get a chance to try it at a friend’s house during a recent weekend and I have to say, Knob Creek 9 Year Old certainly lives up to all of the hype.
Made by Jim Beam, Knob Creek 9 is a bourbon that is meant to embody the look, feel, taste and texture of bourbons that were released prior to the prohibition era, and they certainly do a good job of capturing that feel. Even the label carries this theme, and the experience is authentic. Along with its wonderful taste, you can easily see why Knob Creek has garnered a lot of attention for its presentation.
Knob Creek 9 smells like freshly roasted nuts and honey from the minute that you open the bottle. The taste is consistent with the smell, providing a sweet flavor with a rich touch of honey, and an almost-fruit like aftertaste. As soon as you take a sip you will notice a number of different flavors throughout Knob Creek, and all of them blend together very well. It certainly is unlike any other bourbon that I have tasted and feels more like a bourbon desert because of its sweet flavors.
It’s color is a deep orange-red, which is in line with the taste and the smell. Needless to say, after my first taste of Knob Creek 9 Year Old Whisky it has quickly become a regular in my liquor cabinet, and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a sweet bourbon with an old-fashioned feel to it.

100% agree with this write up. Best in its class/ price range. I drink it neat, room temp with a few drops of water or a just a chip of ice. (heads to the cabinet….)

Knob Creek is my go-to favorite bourbon right now. It is incredible. I am a Kentucky native, and so I love my bourbon and expect the best from them. KC is powerful but not overpowering, vanilla, oak, and has a LONG great finish without an unpleasant aftertaste. I drink my bourbons neat or in shots, sometimes in a glass with ice. I never drink anything less than 90 proof! KC is a wonderful 100 proof and doesn’t taste like gasoline like Wild Turkey, or watered down stuff. It is just right! I can’t wait to try the 120 proof single barrel. KC has it all, good for cocktails, mixing, but best of all it can be enjoyed neat! The price point is great for the quality. It’s by far the best thing Jim Beam makes. I will always have a bottle in my cabinet.

This is the Whiskey my father loves, and it’s always been my favorite. Being a short on cash bourbon lover, an odd type of young college student, I normally settle for whatever I can afford, ranging from Old Crow to Jim Beam Black label to Wild Turkey, but I did have enough to save for a 1.75 L bottle, which is kept safely in the closet of my apartment. All because my father gave me expensive tastes.
