New York City-Based Great Jones Distillery Opens This Weekend
With six years of construction complete, Proximo Spirits-owned Great Jones Distilling Company will finally open in the Noho neighbourhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City, on Saturday (August 21, 2021) for tours and tasting experiences.
Great Jones Distilling Company is physically located at 686 Broadway and Proximo is claiming that it is thought to be the first legal whiskey distillery to open in Manhattan for more than 100 years.
Great Jones Distilling Company will feature a distillery [duh], a shop, restaurant, speakeasy and event space in September.
Great Jones Distilling Company was created by Juan Domingo Beckmann, founder of Proximo Spirits, the US import arm of Jose Cuervo Tequila producer Becle.
Great Jones Distilling Company will produce whiskey made with grains grown in the state’s Black Dirt agricultural region and will introduce three signature whiskies: Great Jones Straight Bourbon, Great Jones Four Grain Bourbon and Great Jones Rye Whiskey.
Each of that trio is made with 100% New York-sourced grain, and has aged for the past five years in new charred American oak barrels prior to the opening of the distillery.
Great Jones Distilling Company will be open every Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 10pm.
