Scotch Malt Whisky Society Launches Ice Cream
It’s not every day that a whisky club creates ice cream but this Scottish society has decided to test the waters with a chili-based sorbet! The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SWWS) has partnered with a gelateria from Edinburg, Joelato, to make an experimental ice cream around its new chilli-infused dram.
As is customary, people celebrate success. That is why the whisky club, as part of its 40th-anniversary celebration, has added creativity to the festivities. The company has rolled out a new, fiery chilli-infused spirit, named Exp.01, in a limited edition bottling.
As a matter of fact, the new sorbet uses Exp.01 to form its base. The new cocktail-inspired ice cream, Pink Grapefruit Derby, is being created by top gelato maker Joe Sykes at the gelateria’s test kitchens in Perthshire.
The making of Expo.01
The special limited edition whisky was formed with the addition of Scotch bonnet chilli peppers to a cask of 10 year old single malt whisky, which was then left to mature for 17 years. The irresistibly sweet paprika flavor with a peppery punch is the result of this long process and blending, The expression has a 55.6% ABV.
Later next month, many SWWS will get an opportunity to taste the Pink Grapefruit Derby sorbet. The society is plan to serve ice cream to its members who participate in The Vaults as part of The Gathering and so celebrate 40 years of service.
In a press conference, Helen Stewart, SWWS head of brand marketing & membership, said of the collaboration: “Joelato’s lively sorbet creation is a really exciting new way for people to explore one of the Society’s more experimental bottlings. At SMWS we are passionate about promoting new ideas and collaborating to create unique sensory experiences for adventurous whisky and spirit lovers seeking something unconventional.”
