Six GlenAllachie Whiskies Released
Last summer, Billy Walker bought Speyside distillery GlenAllachie from Chivas Brothers and the distillery is now releasing their first single casks since the purchase. The six single cask bottlings are from 1978, 1989, 1990 and 1991:
GlenAllachie 1978, 40 Years Old, Sherry Butt, Cask #10296, 55.9% alcohol by volume [111.8 proof]
GlenAllachie 1989, 29 Years Old, Sherry Butt, Cask #986, 57.7% abv [115.4 proof]
GlenAllachie 1989, 29 Years Old, Hogshead, Cask #2587, 45.4% abv [90.8 proof]
GlenAllachie 1990, 28 Years Old, Sherry Butt, Cask #2515, 44.9% abv [89.8 proof]
GlenAllachie 1990, 28 Years Old, Sherry Butt, Cask #2517, 54.6% abv [109.2 proof]
GlenAllachie 1991, 27 Years Old, Hogshead, Cask #100285, 55% abv [110 proof]
The release of the six single casks marks the 50th anniversary of GlenAllachie’s debut in 1968 [though Chivas had primarily used the distillery’s whisky for blending during that time].
Tasting notes of the six released whiskies are said to run the gamut from orange peel and grapefruit through to dark chocolate and cherries.
Only 3,500 50cl bottles of the six GlenAllachie whiskies will be produced – all at cask strength – and will be available for $280 to $980. The launch of the distillery’s first core range whiskies is set for June 2018.
