According to the distillery, the return of Spirit Hound’s 6-Year Single Barrel Bottled-in-Bond is an anticipated event. The distillery has previously released the spirit to a welcoming market.
“Our Bottled-in-Bond whisky program is a testament to Spirit Hound’s continued commitment to producing the highest quality whisky and spirits possible,” Craig Engelhorn, co-founder and head distiller of Spirit Hound Distillers, said.
“It’s been incredible to see the amount of national attention and support we’ve received for our flagship American Single Malt Whisky and we truly feel this Bottled-in-Bond version continues to raise the bar for our whisky program.”
What Makes The Spirit Hound Whisky “Bottled-in-Bond”?
Like most distilleries using the Bottled-in-Bond signature, Spirit Hound must adhere to a rigorous distilling process. Firstly, the spirit must be aged for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof or 48% abv. Even so, hitting that 100-proof mark can be a hustle.
However, the rules are just getting started. Another requirement stipulates that the whisky must be processed by one distiller, in a single distillery, and in one season. That’s a lot of ‘ones’ to go through.
In addition, the distillery must adhere to one final rule – the maturing process must be done in a bonded warehouse. So, no throwing it in the cellar for a few years. However, this rule is more beneficial to the distillery as they can reduce costs with 0% duty tax. naturally, these places are certified by governmental agencies.
Furthermore, Spirit Hound also released its 4 1/2-year-old Single Barrel Colorado Rye Whisky. The new spirit features a combination of barley and rye, distilled in handmade copper still and aged in American Oak barrels.
