Suntory CEO Submits Resignation
Takeshi Niinami, the CEO of Japan-based spirits behemoth Suntory, has resigned after a police investigation revealed his alleged role in illegal supplements, reportedly specifically in conjunction with THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.
Although Niinami had resigned on September 1, 2025, the police investigation had begun nearly two weeks earlier and reportedly revolved around Niinami’s purchase of the supplements – which were not produced by Suntory.
Niinami become chairman and president of Suntory in October 2014 following four generations of family management.
Suntory owns numerous well-known whisky and bourbon brands – including Laphroaig and Jim Beam – as well as non-alcoholic brands, such as Orangina.
