Templeton Rye Founders Settle Lawsuit
If you have ever purchased a bottle of Templeton Rye Whiskey in the past year or so, then you may be getting a refund. That’s because the founders of the Iowa-based, Indiana-made whiskey have settled three class action lawsuits brought against them by people and their lawyers who were miffed that Templeton Rye both originally claimed that it was made in Iowa and was a small batch rye. Neither, as it turned out, were completely true. Templeton Rye was marketed in Iowa but made from a spirit, the majority of which originated in an Indiana distillery. Additionally, the recipe used to produce Templeton Rye was based on a Prohibition Era recipe but is a replica of that recipe and not the exact recipe.
The class action lawsuits will likely not be paid out to consumers until 2016 or 2017.
