The Dalmore Luminary – The Rare Goes Under the Sotheby’s Hammer
Recently, The Dalmore unveiled The Dalmore Luminary No. 2 in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects’ director Melodie Leung. The Dalmore Luminary – The Rare will be auctioned.
Notably, The Dalmore The Luminary No. 2 comprises two new Highland Single Malt whiskies – ‘The Rare’ and ‘The Collectible’. The former is presented in an amber glass sculpture, and the latter in a presentation case.
As part of Sotheby’s World Whisky Day, May 18, 2024, The Dalmore Luminary – The Rare – 2024 Edition and its sculpture will be auctioned. All proceeds will be donated to the V&A Dundee.
The Dalmore The Luminary No. 2 to Be Auctioned
During the making of this whisky, Leung worked with two other experts from . The first is master distiller Richard Paterson and master whisky maker Gregg Glass. For Glass, it was an emotional and intense experience:
‘This has been one of the proudest moments of my career,’ he said. ‘We have built a friendship that has opened my eyes to think differently about what I do and how I work. Whisky is a living, breathing thing; it has a life that will go on and on.’
‘The Rare’ is a 49-year-old Highland Single Malt, and only three decanters and two sculptures were made. Only one of these will go under the hammer. The sculpture spent 12 weeks in the kiln, where the temperature was gradually reduced.
Finished in American White Oak ex-Bourbon casks, this whisky has flavors of vanilla, dark berry fruits, and freshly roasted chestnuts. The aromas are of blackcurrant and soft spices, and the finish is sweet.
In addition, the second spirit, ‘The Collectible’ is currently available. This 16-year-old Highland Single Malt, launched in April 2024, contains a small amount of exceptionally rare peated Dalmore spirit. A total of 20,000 limited edition sets can be purchased worldwide.
