Whisky Exchange Releases 50 Year Old Karuizawa Marriage
The Whisky Exchange (TWE) Cabinet, has released a 50-year-old Karuizawa single malt whisky. Available only on TWE Cabinet, the Karuizawa Marriage combines two casks from the closed Japanese distillery Karuizawa. TWE Cabinet is a blockchain-enabled platform for whisky exchanges.
This rare Japanese whisky follows the launch of The Glenlivet’s 50-year-old collection earlier this year.
The first component of Karuizawa Marriage was distilled at the distillery in 1965 and bottled as a 50-year-old whisky in 2015. Matured in a Sherry cask, a small amount was kept back and now used for the creation of the marriage.
Whisky Exchange Cabinet Releases Karuizawa Marriage
In 2012, at a masterclass held at The Whisky Exchange, a Karuizawa 1972 was given a try. This led to plans for Marriage’s debut, including this spirit as a second component. It was matured in a red wine cask in 1972, giving it hints of tropical guava and dried mango. After tasting, the cask was recoopered to decrease its size, allowing it to continue maturing more gradually.
According to Spirit Business, the whiskies were “Vatted in 2022, left to rest, marry, and develop for two years before being bottled in July 2024.
There are 50 bottles in the Marriage collection, each featuring a hand-engraved illustration of a Japanese princess. It was inspired by the seven aesthetics of wabi-sabi. These images capture and reflect on the purity, elegance, and beauty of Japanese history frozen in time.
Dedicated to collectors and connoisseurs across the globe, the expression will be kept in-house. The Whisky Exchange Cabinet is the only place where this rare release can be purchased online.
In addition to offering a transferable digital certificate, the platform provides proof of ownership, authenticity, and traceability. It also allows anyone to use any digital currency, including debit and credit cards.
Karuizawa 50-year-old Marriage 1965 and 1972 will be available on TWE Cabinet on Thursday 17 October 2024 from 10 am (BST). Featuring 54.8% alcohol by volume, the Japanese single malt is available for purchase in a 500ml bottle.
