White Peak Releases New Single Malt Whisky
White Peak, Derbyshire’s first single malt distillery, has created a new expression fully matured in ex-Bourbon barrels. Although the whisky lacks an age statement, it is made from the oldest casks in the distillery. The family has labeled the spirit Wire Works Bourbon Barrel.
Founded in 2021 by husband-and-wife team Max and Claire Vaughan, White Peak Distillery released its first single malt in 2022. Wire Works Bourbon Barrel is the distillery’s first release to be aged in ex-Bourbon barrels.
Max Vaughan White Peak Distillery co-founder said: “Bourbon Barrel is a signature whisky for us. We are elevating our house style and showcasing our unique flavor elements. Our Derbyshire home, lightly peated malt barley, fresh local brewer’s yeast, long fermentation, and slow distillation.
Wire Works Bourbon Barrel Joins White Peak’s Portfolio
“Ex-Bourbon barrels are considered to be relatively inactive. Therefore, their exclusive use in maturation can really highlight a distillery’s true house character.
“It’s more than six years since we fired up the stills. And we feel the time is right in 2024 to open up our souls with this release. This is some of our oldest liquid from some of our favorite casks. And we hope White Peak whisky lovers will enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed our journey so far.”
Wire Works Caduro will join this expression as a permanent addition to the brand’s core range of products. The single malt whisky will be available at the distillery and through select trade partners. The new expression joins the market with a 53.5% ABV.
White Peak Distillery is a British-owned company that is owned and operated by the Vaughn family. According to the testimonial of Max Vaughn, the distillery was a dream come true.
“In mid-2016 we had no premises, no partners or staff, no permits or consents, nowhere near enough funding, and no track record in the drinks & spirits industry. But I had a dream that I’d been carrying for years, of making whisky and other spirits in Derbyshire. I was fortunate to find some investors who liked my ideas, I met two great distillers and I found the perfect premises. I decided I’d reached my now.”
