Ardbeg 5 Year Old Wee Beastie – Perfect Halloween Gift
It’s Halloween and midnight has finally come, marking the official start of the bewitching hour, so whether you’re dressed up, trick-or-treating, or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home, there are plenty of chilling Halloween whiskies. One very popular spooky spirit is the Ardbeg 5 Year Old Wee Beastie.
It is evident by the name of this fiery dram. The spirit tastes of coffee, fennel, and tree sap on the nose. Smoke, chocolate, anise, and savory meat dominate on the palate, leaving the drinker with notes of cocoa and fudge.
In August 2019, the distillery released Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 Years Old Since then, this is its first new single malt Scotch whisky in its core range. However, only limited amounts of that expression are released annually.
Ardbeg Halloween Special Old Wee Beastie
As a result of Ardbeg Day’s annual bottlings, this aged expression follows quickly on from the No Age Statement An Oa launched in 2017. It displays a ramping up of the brand compared to its historic slow and steady approach.
It had previously taken ‘Ardbeggians’ (fans of Ardbeg whisky) as long as eight years to see a new “core” expression. Prior to An Oa, the last one was 2009’s Corryvreckan.
A reminder of what’s in store for Ardbeg as it prepares to expand its capacity. Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 Years Old is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels and sherry barrels and has been bottled non-chill-filtered at 47.4% ABV.
With its youthful nature, Wee Beastie recalls early Ardbeg expressions. These include the Ardbeg Very Young, Still Young, and Almost There expressions. Spirits that showcased the distillery’s distinctive peated style.
Regarding the Wee Beastie release, Ardbeg’s director of whisky creation Dr Bill Lumsden said: “I’m in no doubt that Ardbeggians will love this tongue-tingling expression. The casks chosen for its creation make it ideal for enjoying neat or as the mouth-watering main ingredient in a powerfully smoky cocktail.”
