Buffalo Trace Reveals Second Prohibition Collection
Buffalo Trace Distillery has released their second annual Prohibition Collection, a limited edition set which includes commemorates five whiskies – Mirror Brook, Very Oldest Procurable (VOP), Anderson’s Belle, Old Fashioned Mountain Corn and Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey – legally produced and sold at the George T Stagg Distillery during Prohibition [1920-33].
During the Prohibition Era, the USA government banned the production, sale and transportation of alcohol under the 18th Amendment and decreed that the purchase of alcohol was only legal with a medical prescription, with only six distilleries granted licenses by the government to bottle medicinal whiskey – George T Stagg, renamed Buffalo Trace in 1999, was one of the six distilleries.
Mirror Brook is a bottled-in-bond blend of Kentucky whiskies, bottled at 50% alcohol by volume [100 proof] and is said to offer notes of cherry and oak.
VOP is a barrel-proof Kentucky straight bourbon said to offer notes of cherry, oak, rye spice and vanilla.
Anderson’s Belle is also a bottled-in-bond whiskey, bottled at 50% alcohol by volume (100 proof) and is said to offer notes of dried fruit and oak.
Old Fashioned Mountain Corn is a Kentucky straight corn whiskey, bottled at 55% alcohol by volume [110 proof] and is said to offer notes of caramel, sweet corn and toasted oak.
Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey was bottled at 62.5% alcohol by volume (125 proof) and is said to offer notes of oak, rye spice, toffee and vanilla.
The Buffalo Trace Distillery Prohibition Collection Series #2 is being made available for $1000 per set, which each set containing 375ml bottles.
Additionally for the release, Buffalo Trace partnered with the Scandinavian Tobacco Group to launch a limited edition cigar set featuring five unique blends held in 750 individually numbered boxes alongside the whiskey collection.
