Broken Bones Distillery Sells Over 80% of Stock
The whisky industry is often a place for incredible news as is the current information from a Slovenian whisky distillery. According to a new report from the company, Broken Bones Distillery has sold out more than 80% of its 2024 stock.
Broken Bones was founded in 2012 by Botjan Marui, Borut Osojnik, and Polona Preskar. The distillery originally created whisky and gin, but this year began making vodka and brandy.
According to Preskar, the whisky took five years to create. It was created using peated and unpeated malt and local and overseas yeast. The equipment for distilling and aging was hand-made by the co-founders. This made it easier to test fermentation lengths, distillation processes, and cask types in establishing its flavor profile.

After the distillation process is completed, the new spirit is transferred into new, treated, charred barrels made from Slovenian wood. Once the liquid has acquired the desired fruity notes and sufficient tannins, it is transferred into ex-Bourbon barrels.
This year, Broken Bones unveiled its first bottling of 2024, Broken Bones Single Malt Whisky, as demand for its whisky increases. To meet increasing demand, Broken Bones has almost sold out of its 2024 whisky stock and is now preparing to agree orders for 2025.
The single malt is aged for three years in Slovenian and American oak barrels, contains no added coloring, and has not been chill-filtered. Its taste profile is described as distinct, floral, and full-bodied.
In addition, the distillery began producing on its new, larger equipment this month (May). By 2027, the distillery hopes to produce 20,000 bottles of whisky per annum. The distillery describes its product as a smooth whisky with character.
“Broken Bones Whisky is a smooth, complex, and elegant single malt whisky, with unique character connected to its land of origin. It embodies the natural treasures of Slovenia, the green gem of Europe. Infinite woods that provide distinctive oak barrels, pure water from spectacular mountains, and unspoiled air.”
