Crown Royal Put In Canada’s Sin Bin For 2026
Crown Royal is being put in Canada’s sin bin as Ontario’s premier Doug Ford has indicated that Crown Royal will be removed from that province’s liquor stores as retribution for owner Diageo shifting their facility’s operations and production of the iconic Canadian whiskey brand from Ontario to – reportedly – Alabama, where Diageo recently announced plans to open a facility.
That move was also additionally affected by tariffs imposed by the US government and reportedly resulted in the loss of approximately 200 jobs associated with the facility, when it closes next month.
Crown Royal was born in 1939 to honor a visit to Canada by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, is made with Canadian grains and water from Manitoba’s Lake Winnipeg and was initially only made available in Canada – until the 1960s – when it was made available to the USA.
Crown Royal had been part of Canada-based Seagram’s entertainment and spirits conglomerate but was eventually acquired by London-based Diageo in 2001 after Seagram collapsed.
Diageo is currently the world’s biggest spirits conglomerate.
