Diageo Unveils Rare Series
Diageo has released a five-bottle collection as the first installment in their new Rare Series – including 55-year-old Glenury Royal – Diageo’s oldest single malt bottling to date.
The inaugural Diageo Rare Series features five whiskies: Blair Athol 1991, Caol Ila 1983, Clynelish 1983, Talisker 1992 and the aforementioned 55-year-old from the closed Glenury Royal Distillery.
Blair Athol 1991 Rare Series, is a Highland-based single malt matured in ex-sherry European oak casks, finished in Pedro Ximenez–seasoned new American oak hogsheads, bottled at 50.8% alcohol by volume [101.6 proof], limited to 347 bottles and is being made available for $900 per bottle.
Caol Ila 1983 Rare Series is the oldest bottling ever released from the Islay-based distillery, was matured in both American oak casks and European oak puncheons, bottled at 56.4% alcohol by volume [112.8 proof], limited to 318 bottles and is being made available for $3000 per bottle.
Clynelish 1983 Rare Series was matured in American oak hogsheads, bottled at 49.5% alcohol by volume [99 proof], limited to a mere 160 bottles and is being made available for $4,000 per bottle.
Talisker 1992 Rare Series is a small batch whisky from the Isle of Skye, aged in both refill American and European oak casks, finished for more than 20 years in Amoroso-seasoned American oak hogsheads, bottled at 60.1% alcohol by volume [120.2 proof], limited to 331 bottles and being made available for $1,300 per bottle.
Glenury 1970 Rare Series was matured in American oak hogsheads along with European oak puncheons before being bottled at 62.4% alcohol by volume [124.8 proof], limited to 232 bottles, which are being made available for $6,350 per bottle.
